Graham Blair is a printmaker and designer based in St. John’s, Newfoundland. His woodcut prints are created using techniques based on the earliest methods of printmaking. Each edition begins with an original design hand-carved onto a maple block using a combination of knives and gouges.
When the block is finished, each impression is hand-printed by rolling ink onto the surface of the woodblock, laying down the paper, then burnishing the reverse until the image is transferred. The papers used are the finest Japanese washi, handmade from renewable plant fibres.
